Review: With Every Letter

As part of a morale building program, painfully shy flight nurse Mellie Blake reluctantly pens an anonymous letter to an American officer stationed in North Africa.   The recipient of her letter, Lt. Tom MacGilliver, is the son of an infamous murderer; he has been trying to live down his family name for years.  In anonymity, both find the freedom and courage to authentically connect with another person.  But, can that connection survive when they meet face to face?

Sarah Sundin's With Every Letter (Revell, 2012) is a history buff's delight.  Sundin's research into the formation of the 802nd Medical Air Transport Squadron and the introduction of flight nurses into service is impeccable and forms a fascinating backdrop to Mellie's and Tom's stories of courage, faith, mercy, and change.  Sundin develops her characters slowly, allows them to be flawed, and allows them to struggle in such a way that you find yourself cheering for them at the end.  With Every Letter is a very satisfying read, and I highly recommend it for fans of historical, inspirational fiction.

Not quite my thing, but it's nice to see the "Historical" cut off expanding.
