Jody Hedlund's Unending Devotion (Bethany House Publishers, 2012) is a meticulously researched portrait of life in the lumber camps of 1880s Michigan. The villain of the story, James Carr, is based on the notorious real life brothel owner and white slaver of the time. From a historical perspective, I found Unending Devotion to be an excellent read.

nice...period pieces can be pretty cool...and neat too when they explore unique times as well...sounds interesting...
I'll recommend this to my Michigan friends. It sounds interesting. Now I'm going looking for that poetic tea I mentioned.
It kinda makes one feel funny.
You feel for women who have to do this sort of thing to make a living. You hear stories of kidnappings where women are turned into slaves of the trade. You get angry and want to save them.
You want better for them but instead they get mad at you and say they have rights to do this trade and they like it.
So ......what do you say?
Are you suggesting that such things ever actually took place in my fair home state? Absurd. Besides, "Unending Devotion"? Slavish devotion is better!
