A man attempts suicide with a placebo antidepressant medication . . . and almost succeeds. A seemingly healthy young woman becomes paralyzed . . . but, only when she's pregnant. A woman spends twenty-three years confined to a wheelchair . . . and miraculously walks again at the funeral of her husband. These are real medical cases recounted in Dr. Clifton K. Meador's True Medical Detective Stories (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2012).
True Medical Detective Stories is a quick (only eighty pages or so), but fascinating read. Dr. Meador details the symptoms of each case in language a layman can understand. Then, he explains how doctors found (the often bizarre) cause of the presenting illness. I found the book really interesting, and I recommend it to readers who enjoy this sort of thing.
I received a complimentary copy of True Medical Detective Stories to facilitate my review. No other compensation was received. For full disclosure, see the sidebar.

Sounds like a fascinating book. Reminds me of House.

I absolutely devour stuff like this. I've got to get my hands on it.
Isn't that scary?
Can you imagine how many diagnosing mistakes are made out there?
Some can cost you dearly.
Then a person recovers for no reason but obviously there is a reason.
Amazing stuff!!
Cool.
This sounds interesting.
Hi there - that sounds like an interesting read.
Some of the stuff that happens to people really does show how much more we have to learn about the way the body works!
thanks for the visit to WBW
