Review: The Stars Shine Bright

This is Special Agent Raleigh Harmon's last chance. Fresh from a suspension for bending FBI rules, she is sent undercover to discover who is fixing horse races at the Emerald Downs racetrack.  When horses start dying, however, Raleigh realizes that much more is at stake than money.  And, she is running out of time.

Sibella Giorello's The Stars Shine Bright (Thomas Nelson, 2012) has a lot going for it.  The plot twists and turns enough to keep you guessing till the very end.  The racetrack setting is really interesting and lends itself to lots of colorful peripheral characters.  And, Agent Harmon's background in forensic geology adds some fascinating elements to the tale.  Unfortunately, the story loses momentum a bit whenever it focuses on Harmon's chaotic personal life, rather than the mystery at hand.  Still, The Stars Shine Bright is a really entertaining read, and I would recommend it.

Who in the right mind kills horses unless it's a race horse. Whomever it is, that's nasty.
Sounds like a good book.
