Review: The Haven

When Sadie Lapp returns home after spending a winter away, she doesn't return alone; Sadie has a baby!  The entire Amish community of Stoney Ridge is shocked, and rumors immediately begin to fly.  Gideon Smucker, Sadie's shy, awkward childhood sweetheart, is willing to forgive all and make an honest woman of Sadie.  But, Sadie seems to be far more interested in the game warden's charming new intern.  Suddenly, life in Stoney Ridge has become a lot more complicated.

Suzanne Woods Fisher's The Haven (Revell, 2012) is an absolute delight.  Set in a tiny Pennsylvania Amish community, The Haven makes the most of its unique setting without letting the setting overwhelm the story or substitute for character development.  I've said before that Suzanne Woods Fisher does not write Amish fiction; she writes great fiction about characters that happen to be Amish.  With The Haven, she does it once again.

I've recently been interested in everything Amish after watching that Amish series on National Geographic. This book sounds good and I will add it to my list!

Sounds like a wonderful book.
I just finished one called To Heaven and Back by Mary C Neal MD.I was so amazed to see, how people, who don't know each other, go through the same experiences. It shouldn't be surprising but it always is.:)

Do you have any thoughts on why Amish fiction seems to be increasingly popular?

Enjoyed this. I've read a few Amish novels and find them fascinating.
