Power rangers are actually based on the Japanese show Super Sentai. The series has always had like 1-2 year runs and then they switch to a new storyline with brand new characters. Power Rangers takes all their fight scenes, and just adds there own non-costume dialogue scenes.
So when Super Sentai changes, so does Power Rangers

My four year old son LOVES them... as did my now 20 year old... I will never be "free " of them. I even have a red Power Ranger Christmas ornament from 17 years ago. :)
I'm happy to say there were no such creatures when my kids were growing up -- either that or they just weren't interested! WOW guess that means all of us are OLD -- but I won't tell them that!!
