Review: Chain Gang Elementary

Tensions run high at Malliford Elementary when redistricting results in an influx of minority students.  Newly elected PTO President Richard Gray just wants to do right by all of Malliford's kids.  But, Principal Estelle Rutherford is willing to do anything to preserve her "School of Excellence" rating, even if it means sacrificing children along the way.

Jonathan Grant, author of Chain Gang Elementary (Thornbriar Press, 2011), just might be my new favorite writer.  You want to laugh?  Grant writes with smart, sardonic wit.  You want to be moved to tears of heartbreak or rage?  Grant can get you there, too.  And, he does it all within a story that speeds along like a bullet train and keeps you turning page after page.  Chain Gang Elementary might be every parent's nightmare, but it's a hell of a read, and I highly recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of Chain Gang Elementary to facilitate my review.  No other compensation was received.  For full disclosure, see the sidebar.

Writes with a smart, sardonic wit? An author I'll have to check out.

Oooh
Keeping excellence at the expense of kids...now that's something that catches the eye.

Reminds me of some people I came across in life, who I had great respect for, and then found out that they may be good at what they do but they equally carried ugly souls which cancelled out all the good they did.
I call them very powerful but dangerous people.

i'm sorry for doubting you, my dear, but i went to amazon.com to verify that this is a real book ~ the name is...um...retro, shall we say? it reminds me of the 1975 movie 'Switchblade Sisters.'

i trust your judgement so will read this the first chance i get.

on a side note ~ one doesn't want to get Jonathan Grant mixed up with Jonathan A. Grant, the author of "Rulers, Guns, and Money: The Global Arms Trade in the Age of Imperialism" ~ i doubt that his work is as humorous.
