Review: Caring Lessons

Lois Roelofs didn't want to be a nurse, but it was the path her family had chosen for her.  To her surprise, her training awakened a passion for mental health care and an insatiable desire for learning.  Caring Lessons: A Nursing Professor's Journey of Faith and Self (Deep River Books, 2010) is a look back at Roelofs' forty year career as a teacher and caregiver.

I enjoyed Caring Lessons tremendously.  I grew up with nurses and nursing, and I recognized a former patient, a family member, or myself on every page.  Caring Lessons provides a fascinating chronicle of how nursing has changed over the decades.  If you have a nurse in your circle of friends or family, this book would make a great gift.

I received a complimentary copy of Caring Lessons to facilitate my review.  No other compensation was received.  For full disclosure, see the sidebar.
