Review: Forever Hilltop

When Alex Armstrong leaves Chicago behind to accept his first parish assignment in a tiny North Dakota community, he doesn't know what to expect.  Can a big city boy ever feel at home in the "wild" of North Dakota?  Or, will Alex return to Chicago . . . and the woman who broke his heart?

Judy Baer's Forever Hilltop (Guideposts, 2012) is actually two books in one volume (An Unlikely Blessing & Surprising Grace), and it is a delightful read.  In An Unlikely Blessing, Pastor Alex is the classic fish out of water who finds himself in the midst of a close knit community of, um, interesting people.  In  Surprising Grace, Pastor Alex is finding his footing in Hilltop, but also feeling the pull of an old love.  Both stories feature the same lively, funny cast of characters, and both stories leave you wishing that you didn't have to leave Hilltop.  Forever Hilltop is like relaxing with a friend.

I agree with Brian, the cover alone would put me off reading the book!

I was just thinking, "what a cute cover!"

Hey, what's the difference between a man and a stone goose?

A stone goose doesn't get all its clothes from Sports Authority.

Hey, I'm here to help.

I've read some other books Judy Baer has written for Guideposts and enjoyed them quite a bit.

No doubt, finding the balance, that is the secret.
